  • Yakushima is a small remote and island located on the southern edge of Kagoshima Prefecture.  It is listed as UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.  The picturesque and pristine island is a subtropical rain forest with diverse terrain and climate.  Its widely varied terrain hosts many ecosystems.  The island is dotted with small family-owned tea gardens.  Yutaka Midori, a warm region tea cultivar named for its luxuriant green color, thrive on Yakushima island.  Yutaka Midori is second only to Yabukita in terms of popularity and land cultivation.  
  • Cultivation Notes:
    • Yutaka Midori tea bushes are exposed to full sun to optimize its catechin content.
    • Yutaka Midori 's natural resistance to pest and diseases [especially gray blight and anthracnose], allows this cultivar to thrive without needing chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
    • Natural farming practices, coupled with Yutaka Midori  inherent vigor result in  good yield.
  • Processing Notes:  
    • Deep steaming (Fukamushi) preserves the luxuriant, vibrant green color of the tea.
    •  Deep steaming also serves to balance out the bitter, astringent taste with discernable umami and  soft, mild sweetness.

    • Full-bodied with with deep flavor and rich aroma, Fukamushi Yutaka Midori is a very approachable and enjoyable green tea.
